Professionalism

What is Professionalism?
Adherence to a set of values comprising both a formally agreed-upon code of conduct and the informal expectations of colleagues, clients and society.

This hi-fi definition was taken from a website. I shall define in a simpler way. The act of adhering to the rules and not considering anything out side of the work. Suppose any two can be friends or Husband&Wife or Father&Son. They may share anything in their life. But when it comes to the work, they should be Collegaues and not being with other relationships. If one is working under other, he/she should look the other as his/her boss. Then only there will be a smooth transition. Otherwise, life will become hell both inside office and outside office.

A professionalist will not consider anything personal. If any mess happens in personal life he may feel low for that. But if it happens in work, he will not. Rather he take it as a challenge to overcome the mess. Criticism will not do anything for him. If he thinks that the criticism is really to be taken care of then he may think of it. Otherwise he will become deaf for that criticism.

Last week we had a session in which the onsite returned members shared their experiences at onsite. They said everyone will admire the americans for their professionalism. Americans will take others to Coffee, dinner etc. But if it comes to work, they will not think of anything other than work. We think that we Indians are hardworking. Though they do not work hard like us, they manage people well. That is why here in India, we work for 12+ hours a day. They work only 8 hours. Whatever happens, they leave the office after 8 hours. Their happy moments lie in playing with their children, passing time with their family and parties. But we here are away from our family and friends to earn money.
