First Year in CW - Week1 (Job)

Hi All,
It has been a great pleasure to share my first year experiences in this corporate world with you. Lots of experiences, lots of learnings and lots of joys with some sad things also.

Everyone was hunting for a job that time. My last year in college. After a long struggle, by god's grace I got through one company where I am working now. After that placement, no worries. That time my friends were not placed. But soon after I got placed, they also got placed in different companies. Without knowing anything or without wanting to know what this world is, I stepped into Bangalore, where my training was to be...

Still I could remember, that Friday I and my friends who are going to join the company started off to Bangalore from Pondicherry at about 8:30pm. My mother cried when I left Pondicherry. My parents did not come with me to Bangalore. All others parents came with them. We reached there in a Hotel at about 4:00 am.

The next day morning, we went to have our break fast. That was the first time, I looked outside of Bangalore with all those traffic. It was horrible when we had our lunch (Vaazhkaya veruthutaen). Then we started to search home to stay since that hotel accomodation was only for a week.

More some time after.......

Last Week - Fever Week

Last week - it was a fever week for me. All the five days I was suffering from light fever and cold. Even though it was light, it troubled me a lot. I was not able to concentrate in anything. I met the doctor and he said that it was only a normal fever. I took the medicine he prescribed me. Because of this fever I had to miss one of my team mates marriage. Nothing interesting happened last week. Both in Saturday and Sunday I took rest. I did not go anywhere. The whole day I was sleeping. The back effect of the medicine I took that week made me sleep like this. Today I feel some what fresher than the previous week. I think I am back in the normal active mode. So many things are in pending. I have to complete all those things in this week.

I am going to complete one year in this corporate life. Lots of experiences in one year. I have seen many people and I am seeing new people everyday.

One more IMAX Movie

I witnessed the first 3D movie in my life. The movie is "The Polar Express" about the dream of a boy in christmas eve. Even though it is a child movie, we saw that since we liked that technology. Yesterday, it was too good that no one should miss this kind of movies in iMAX. The story is very simple but the way it is presented is fabulous. We were satisfied with only the trailer they showed. We felt that we were in inside the screen. But after one hour, my eyes started paining. But I was able to tolerate that for this movie.

One important thing happened in the last week was, my project was put on hold. We worked for that about 4 months but the client asked to stop because of budget constraints. All our work was wasted. We did not learn much too. Again we have to involve in some minor requests and bugfixes.

I remember the last one year. My first year in Corporate world. I am starting it as an episode from next week. You can look forward some interesting things in those epidsodes. This week it is already 3 post. :)

Meet with DM

It was a nice experience. I cannot forget that afternoon. My Delivery Manager is "Sachin". That afternoon my PM called me and asked me to sit in his cubicle. I thought he wanted to discuss something. It is usual that my PM discusses with me about various project level activities (Automation, Tool, etc.,). But after some minutes, he got up and walked away from the cubicle. I also started walking with me without asking any question.

My PM said on the way, "Sachin wants to meet you!". I was surprised as well as scared. But in the recent past I did not do anything mischievous. With that puzzled face I asked, "What for?". He replied, "We discussed about you. Sachin wants to know who MK (My nick name in the project) is?". I went there to Sachin's room. Kamesh asked me to wait outside and went inside. In the mean while I was totally gone. I was thinking hundreds of negative possibilities. After that, Sachin called me inside. I went inside. With me my PM and one more PM were there. He shook hands with me.

He said to me, "Your confirmation (One year) is in due. So, I want to chat with you". Then he asked, "How is your work going?". I replied, "Yeah. It is fine". Then he started asking about me, that where I am from? and where did I study? In this time also I thought, because of some mischievous thing only, he was asking all my past. Then he started asking about my strengths and achievements, about my knowledge in Mainframe. I had a good chat with him. At last he said, "In the coming year, you try to remove all the gaps in the technology and give us the best output". I said, "Yeah. I will do that definitely". Then I came outside with great relief. But it seems my PM discussed with him for sometime. I still do not know why I was called.

Anyways, I am proud that, my DM wants to know about me within one year. I am very happy.

Time for the Post

For the last two weeks I was very busy that, I was not able to post anything. Last week was one of the toughest periods in the last one year. Two Night-outs in the office. I had to test for a project. Since I am in mainframe project, we had to depend on the mainframe server located at a different location. The TEST region was down during the day time. So I and the other member in the project had to stay in the night to test.

I am assigned only the testing part. The person coded left to onsite. Unfortunately, the code did not work. So we two had to code and test. We found many bugs in the existing program. We fixed all those things. Ultimately, I tested about 150 test cases for about 5 times again and again in the course of fixing the bugs.

But the good thing is we two learnt a lot both in technical and domain fixing the bugs. We have to thank the person who coded this and made us to learn things.

Cooking at home

This weekend we all in our room cooked. Saturday we cooked, Sambar, potato fry, rice and curd. My room mates cook well. That day the food was very good and yummy. Especially sambar was very good. It was made by my room mate, Mugunthan. The lead for the cooking team is my friend, Mouly.

My friends want to see our office campus, but they were not allowed that day since, we went late. They could have allowed but did not. My friends and I were frustrated. But what to do, we moved away. Again we went for shopping.

Sunday we made non-veg dish (chicken). That day we watched TV and spent in the home itself. I and my friend Karthi ordered for a b'day cake for our friend Mouly. We celebrated his b'day at midnight. He enjoyed a lot. That's all for now!

Friend's B'Day

Today is my friend/roomy, Chandramouly's b'day. Yesterday, we celebrated at 12:00 midnight by cutting cake. We missed the photo session.

IMAX - ROBOTS

My second film in IMAX 3D Digital theatre is "ROBOTS". My friends, Karthi and Mouly are staying with me in Hyderabad. Mouly joined us last week. We went to IMAX theatre at about 4:00PM , and reserved tickets for ROBOTS 6:30 PM show. We wandered there till 6:30 PM. We played some games there in IMAX Complex. We are sighing everyone there. I was able to see many faces from my company. We happened to meet some of our friends in the theatre.


Now coming to IMAX, in Asia there are only 4 theatres to screen IMAX 3D Movies. Of these 2 are in India(1. Hyderabad - Prasads IMAX Theatre, 2. Mumbai -- IMAX Adlabs Theatre**). It was a great experiece seeing movies in IMAX. IMAX 3D technology employs superior polarized glasses technology. The IMAX 3D projector simultaneously projects two strips of 15/70 film, one for each eye, onto a special silver IMAX 3D screen. Each strip of film contains images from two slightly different vantages. Each member of the audience must wear special 3D glasses, which channel the right-eye image to the right eye and the left-eye image to the left eye. Your brain fuses the two images together to create a three-dimensional image. The results make the screen virtually disappear and the images seem to float around the theatre. About the film, one of the best animated movies I have ever seen with good story. Rodney (ROBOT) is the hero of the film. In the movie he wants to become a inventor and invents some new things. He has to show the invention to the ROBOT head. But some politics happen there which prevents him from showing his invention. At last how he wins the politics and with whose help he wins is the story. The story is poised with sentiments, action and humour. After seeing the movie we decided to visit IMAX once in a month.
