Thank U

To those of you, who laughed at me, thank you. Without you I wouldn't have cried.

To those of you who just couldn't love me, thank you. Without you I wouldn't have known real love.

To those of you who hurt my feelings, thank you. Without you I wouldn't have felt them.

To those of you who left me lonely, thank you. Without you I wouldn't have discovered myself.

But it is to those of you who thought I couldn't do it; It is you I thank the most, because without you I wouldn't have tried."

Professionalism

What is Professionalism?
Adherence to a set of values comprising both a formally agreed-upon code of conduct and the informal expectations of colleagues, clients and society.

This hi-fi definition was taken from a website. I shall define in a simpler way. The act of adhering to the rules and not considering anything out side of the work. Suppose any two can be friends or Husband&Wife or Father&Son. They may share anything in their life. But when it comes to the work, they should be Collegaues and not being with other relationships. If one is working under other, he/she should look the other as his/her boss. Then only there will be a smooth transition. Otherwise, life will become hell both inside office and outside office.

A professionalist will not consider anything personal. If any mess happens in personal life he may feel low for that. But if it happens in work, he will not. Rather he take it as a challenge to overcome the mess. Criticism will not do anything for him. If he thinks that the criticism is really to be taken care of then he may think of it. Otherwise he will become deaf for that criticism.

Last week we had a session in which the onsite returned members shared their experiences at onsite. They said everyone will admire the americans for their professionalism. Americans will take others to Coffee, dinner etc. But if it comes to work, they will not think of anything other than work. We think that we Indians are hardworking. Though they do not work hard like us, they manage people well. That is why here in India, we work for 12+ hours a day. They work only 8 hours. Whatever happens, they leave the office after 8 hours. Their happy moments lie in playing with their children, passing time with their family and parties. But we here are away from our family and friends to earn money.

Project Party

Yesterday was our Project Party. Is should be said as Delivery Unit Party. All the projects in the unit celebrated. It was in a resort named "Dream Valley" well after the City. But this time only few people came. Last time the number of people was more. This party was not so interesting.

Games started. The unit was divided into two teams - Riders & Warriors. I was in Riders team. Ultimately the people in Warriors are our Arch Rivals both inside as well as outside the project. First game was constructing pyramid with baloons. We won that game. Next was Tug of war. They won. Next one was a funny game with three rounds. We won the game. But we lagged the points. Next one was a funny fashion show where the dress was made of news paper. They won it with the cute girl. So they won the games with more points. But the last party was won by us. I was not interested. I do not know why?

We started the drinks after 8:30PM. Last time it was earlier. This time I took only a little. After that I danced for about 1 hour without any break. I went to dinner and had nice chicken curry with naans. I think yesterday was the first time that I had 5 ice creams continuously. It was almost 12:00 midnight. I got into the bus and arrived to my room and watched TV for some time. Then I slept for the day.

My Next Level

Last Friday it was announced that I have become a Request Leader. On Wednesday it was officially confirmed by giving access rights to some project resources which can be accessed only the leads and PM. On Wednesday morning without telling me, my friend who is staying with me in Hyderabad sent a mail to all my class mates stating that I have become Team Leader. After coming from lunch only I checked the mails. Mails were pouring from my friends and phone calls too.

The interesting thing in this is I am given this role a bit earlier. I have not completed my one year in my company after which this kind of roles will be given. With me two more were promoted to this role. In that only one completed one year. The other also joined with me in the project. But he deserves this role. But I don't think I deserve this.

Some reason is there for giving me this role. I am in a big project team of about 50 members. And the team has sub-teams based on the size of the applications handled. I am in one of the biggest applications. So this can be one of the reasons. Anyways I will be doing both the job of the Leader and the Developer.

All my friends congratulated me on that day itself. I did not consider this as a great achievement. May be I do not deserve this. But even then I got this because,
25% GOD’s Blessings + 50% Wishes of PPL like them + 25% My work = 100% of my success.

Transfer to Bangalore ?

I am trying for getting transfer from Hyderabad to Bangalore. The reason for transfer is that my parents want me to come atleast once in a month. From Hyderabad I am not able to go to Pondicherry once in a month. So I wanted to go to Bangalore from where I can go home whenever I think. One more reason is most of my friends are there.

I asked my Project manager to give me the transfer. Before he said ok. But after that he refused to give me. I was frustrated and said him in a stronger way to give me transfer. The message went to my previous PM that I was raising my voice. He called me and adviced me. The first thing he said to me was "I heard very bad about you this morning". He said "You want transfer. So you have to wait for that. If you raise your voice all the good things you have done will go in wind. The thing "Raising voice" only comes in mind when you PM thinks of you. So go to him and speak and resolve it today." I said "I did not raise my voice. I put the thing in a stronger way".

In the evening, I spoke to my PM. I said all the difficulties I am facing here and told him that I will wait till he releases me from the Project.

Now one new project has come which will take about one and half years to complete. I am put in that project. So I cannot get transfer for another 2 years. I should learn to enjoy here itself.
I do not know.

This incident happened some months ago in my office. We used to have a session for both domain and technical trainings. That day it was a session on Technical training. One of our leads took that session. He was new to our team that time. During that session, some of my collegaues started playing by giving missed calls to others since the session was boring. The noise created by that disturbed the lead who was taking the session a lot. After some time he started struggling even to speak. Only one of our senior leads was there but he did not take this serious.

I didn't know who was giving missed calls. But the one who was receiving was my friend and room mate. He did not put his cell phone in silent mode after getting 2 times. When his cell rang for the third time, i told this "If you are not interested, you can go out." (In his mother tongue). He replied that he didn't do anything. I said atleast you could have put your cell phone in silent mode after the first call. Even after he didn't put the cell in silent mode. After that also he got one SMS loudly.

Since he is my friend I told him that time in front of others. If it was anyone else I would not have opened my mouth. But others thought differently.

Some days back, one of my collegaues said this to me. She told indirecly that I am bad. She asked me "Your friend is important or the lead ?. Didn't you teas any one till now? You have no rights to say him to go out. No one said anything but you said him to go out".

Yes, I did a great blunder that day because of my anger. I should have kept quiet. Atleast I should not have told that to him in front of others. It does not matter whether the person is our friend, parent or relative, if they do something wrong, we can say. But the way we say will differ.

The 4-year holiday called engineering - A Mail Forward

20 things common to all engg colleges:

1)The lecturers don't teach. The students don't study. The only guy who benefits is the one who owns the 'dhaba' next to the college.
2)Rules are made to be broken.
3)Promises are made to be broken.
4)Deadlines are made to be extended...ALWAYS!
5)Guys always think the chics in the college next lane are more beautiful.
6)The geeks are the most pampered lot during the internal exams.
7)The lab assistants are the most respected people(during the lab exams :))
8)The watchmen are the people most bribed.
9)The HOD is the person most respected(heights of sycophancy here).
10)The principal is the person most abused and insulted(behind the back :))
11)Dropping subjects is 'cool'.(arre yaar..drop the idea of dropping subjects plzz).
12)There is always a lecturer in the college who can't speak proper 'english'.
13)Night-out is the second most important tool to ace the exams.
14)The most important tool..the bhramastra..is the 'chit' in which the words can be understood only by the person who wrote them(in most of the cases :))
15)The first-years are the most sought after..be it in the canteen, the 'free' periods or for completing the records, assignments.
16)The second-years are the ones with the 'I am the don-of-the-college' feeling.
17)The third-years are the ones with the 'so-many-backlogs' feeling and the poor souls get down to study after bossing around in the college for so long, but the fun still continues.
18)The fourth-years have no connection with the college whatsoever...with no interest in ragging, pulling each other`s legs, the b'day parties, the b'day bums etc., which they enjoyed so much till now. All they want is a good placement and a '1st-class' tag attached to their memo.
19)The first three years are spent in cursing the college, the people there, the system etc.,.
20)But towards the end of the fourth year, people tend to feel nostalgic about the pure unadulterated fun they have had for 4 years. Now the very system they disliked, the very canteen they cursed, the time that they spent there, the b'day bums they suffered..all these seem like heaven to them.

My Multi-Name

My name is Muruganandham. This is official name as in Birth Certificate. It is a very good Tamil name which stands for the Tamil God Murugan (Muruga Kadavul).

My pet name is Ashwin (I tell others that Ashwin is short form of Muruganandham:)). Till 6 years of age I was in a Village called "Pattampaakkam" in Cuddalore District of TamilNadu, India. There people called me as Saravanan. In my School and College some of my friends called me as Muruga in addition to Muruganandham and now also continuing that. Till my college, no one has pronounced my name wrongly and spelled my name correctly (like dham :)).

After entering into the Corporate life again my name is changed. Except Tamilians, others feel difficulty in pronouncing and spelling my name. So now in my office, some call me as Ashwin and most of my collegaues call me as MK (Muruganandham Krishnan - Krishnan is my father's Name). In addition to these two names, some call me as Murug (Now my blog name).

Sometimes because of this, I will be confused how to introduce myself to others (With what name?) . In many tele conversations to Onsite, I will say any of these names and who is on the other side will be confused in turn :). I don't know what will be my next name?
